As a busy working Mum, I found myself searching for Online Yoga Classes. You know the drill, life is busy, children, partner, work take priority and your own self care goes out of the window. I get it.
You may be new to Yoga. Or due to the pandemic your regular class or studio closed down, and you now you need something that is right for you.
You need convenience, it needs to be good value value for money, It needs to fit into your schedule and you want as much or as little connection to other Yogis as is right for you.
Ok, so you need to get clear on what it is that is important to you for your own self care/yoga practice.
It is safe to say that convenience rates highest in the Online Yoga Class ranking. Certainly if you choose to gain your Yoga & Wellness practices from an Online, On Demand studio that provides 24/7 access such as Kundalini Connections.
As a busy modern woman, you may find you have 5 minutes to spare or the luxury of a full hour. This is perfect for an on demand such service as you can use whatever time you have available, whenever you are available.
Plus, the style of practice you require may change/. Some days you may need an energetic flow, other days a healing relaxation. These are covered in most On Demand studios and the variety is there for you to choose. Super convenient.
If your Online class is being delivered at a specific time & live, then there are the time commitments. But if you already have this scheduled into your week then it is fits nicely as you don’t have the hassle of travelling to and from the class. Some teachers do record them so that you can still receive the class if unable to attend live.
Online classes and studios vary in price and of course the value depends on how often you use them. With On Demand studios, you can use them every day (I sometimes use mine twice) so of course the price per day can be anything from 50p – an absolute bargain, especially if you can access world class teachers. The more you use them, the better value they are. Simple as that.
Think if it as committing to and investing in your wellness and use it regularly.
Live scheduled classes equally vary in price. I charge £10 for mine as they are only once a month but are free to Studio members – this tends to be the case with most online teachers.
It is fair to say that this is harder to create online. However the power of the subtle body is strong and when fully engaged and present the atmosphere and ambience comes. If jumping up to answer the phone, or doing some other activity that takes you away from your practice then the ‘held space’ is lost.
The teachers I have encountered and certainly in my own classes, the atmosphere, ambience and yogic space have been lovely with connections going over the Ethers with ease.
The tip here is for you to treat this time and space as sacred. Light a candle, make it cosy and easy to move in (no crystal vases within swinging arms distance), and ask for privacy from your fellow housemates. This is your time. If you follow these guidelines then you will find that connection comes easy.
It is about being present. Even in on demand online yoga classes, if you are fully present and invested in your practice, fully engaged with your class, you will feel that connection to your teacher and ultimately to yourself.
Don’t be afraid to genuinely reach out too. Leave a comment or drop your teacher an email to tell them what you received from the class. This is all great feedback, as well as allowing us teachers to connect with you – because I promise you that is what we want, well I do anyway.
Respond to newsletters and interact with social media groups and build that support, connection & community.
If you are a beginner and never done Yoga before, it is wise to check with your GP and have a conversation with a Yoga teacher. A good yoga teacher will demonstrate and describe the class to an extent, that when followed thoroughly and carefully will not cause any harm.
Yes, it is great to be in a class where the teacher can adjust where necessary, but millions of people have successfully taken up Yoga without having ever been adjusted hands on by a teacher.
You know your body better than any yoga teacher, so if something doesn’t feel great, and you are struggling to take a dep breath then pull out oft he pose a little and re adjust until it feels more comfortable for your body.
Even seasoned Yogis need to take things slow and be present, understanding how their body feels today.
So safety is not an issue provided you are careful, take it slow and be present with your body and its sensations.
As a busy modern woman you need to be control of your self care, spiritual growth and essential ‘Me time’.
