There are many myths around Spirituality and here those myths will be busted. When you consider Spirituality what images appear in your minds eye?
A nun, someone ‘Godlike’ a bright light, an angel, a halo, a person meditating or a nature scene. But have you ever conjured up the image of yourself?
Do you consider yourself to be a spiritual being?
What does spirituality mean to you and can it have a positive effect on your life?
OK, let’s first break down what spirituality really means? Google ‘spirituality’ and this is the definition – the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.
You are most definitely human and therefore you have a spirit and a soul, but can you be spiritual and still be attached to the material and physical things?
So much of our identity in today’s culture is tied up with material possessions, wealth, looks and lifestyle choices. The material and physical things remind us of our success and give us the opportunity to experience life, gift our loved ones and live fully in a way that is monitored by the outside world.
Consider this – you lose everything! Not people or family, but you lose your home, the clothes in your wardrobe, even sentimental letters & gifts. What has changed about you, as the human?
Perhaps you just own less, but you are still the amazing most wonderful human as before. You are still you.
Identify does not come from anything outside of yourself because you are the perfect you.

So it makes sense to be more concerned about you as the human rather than material and physical things, but spirituality still feels a bit off right?
What other blocks stand in your way?
Let’s look –
This is one of the most common myths around spirituality. Unfortunately I have had many people put off of Yoga or meditation because they believe it to be a religion. Religion can hold very negative connotations to some as it is the cause of ‘not feeling enough’, ‘shame & guilt’ or at the extreme end of the scale ‘brainwashing’.
But let us remember that at the core of most religion is kindness, love and guidelines with which to live a peaceful, joyful life.
Spirituality, itself is not a religion. It has no doctrination, set book or practice that is required to be part of a spiritual movement. Spirituality is a way to Be, a way to connect with the infinite knowledge and source that you already have.
On the surface, spirituality or ‘being spiritual’ can feel a little overwhelming. How exactly do you start?
Well I am here to share this with you.
Being spiritual, fundamentally means understanding there is a higher power at work –how do you connect to that?

Take a deep breath.
Yep, that is it.
Taking a deep breath allows you to drop straight into the present moment. When 100% in the present moment you are truly living and accepting your place here, right now!
Ok, so the deeper you go into spirituality, yes it can begin to feel complicated. You can read book after book and learn about Doshas, prayer, manifestation, receiving messages, visions, etc. – the list (like you) is infinite.
But the basis of spirituality is not complicated. You can connect to your higher power and the infinite source at any time, no matter where you are.

Depending on your social circle and family, you may seem a little ‘out there’ and ‘woo woo’ when you begin talking about the universe, soul work or whatever spiritual pick n mix you like. However, once you begin taking this path, your tribe reveal themselves to you.
As soon as you clearly begin to make changes and source out new practices and ways to be, the universe listens and will guide you and those like you to meet.
It is amazing how you find the people who will gladly sit and talk for hours about light baths, meditation and cell vibration with you; and it will not seem weird at all – in fact you will be right at home.
Ok, my love, as you change and grow, you will do just that – change and grow. But skip back to the previous point I made about how if you lost everything you owned, you would still be you.
That is exactly the same in Spirituality. You will lose the old parts of you – but the true essence of you will never go, no matter what.
You will be a more spiritually aware version of you, vibing higher and attracting and influencing those around you who need you.
With these myths around spirituality eased for you, from now on, when you conjure an image of spirituality, it can be you. A spiritual journey does not have to be a scary life choice, but a joyful journey of exploration and peeling off your layers.
And the more you learn, the more you will want to learn.
The spiritual journey is an extraordinary one.
