But here’s something small that makes a big difference:
your breath.
When things get overwhelming — whether at home or in the classroom — the breath gets short and shallow. That tells your body to stay on high alert.
But when you slow it down, your body shifts into calm. You think more clearly. You speak more gently. The energy shifts — for you and the children around you.
Breath is a direct line to the nervous system. A longer exhale tells the body:
“You’re safe. You can settle now.”

Even one minute of shared breathing can transform the energy in the room. Use it at the start of the day, after playtime, or before heading home. It’s a gentle, powerful way to reduce classroom stress and build emotional awareness in children.
Children feel our energy. If we’re tense, they sense it. A few quiet breaths before responding, transitioning, or re-setting can help the whole household find a more grounded rhythm.
It doesn’t need to be perfect — it just needs to happen.
